We all need to feel that we are valuable and contributing in a useful way, and older adults are no exception. Older adults, both with and without Dementia, should be encouraged to engage in activities and so be stimulated and feel satisfied. Inactivity can lead to restlessness, frustration, poor self-esteem and agitation – these often have a negative effect on the older adults as well as on those caring for them. With meaningful and appropriate activity, your older adults and their loved ones become happier, and you will benefit from their improved behaviours as you are more likely to have increased quality time and greater job satisfaction.
